Volunteer Opportunities in Community Health Outreach

Common Ground Healing Arts is pleased to announce these exciting volunteer opportunities in community health outreach. If you are driven to teach and empower others to live a healthy lifestyle, then consider how you can make a difference as a member of our Community of Healers program. Join our outreach team and work to make wellness services available to all members of our community, regardless of ability to pay. We are seeking motivated individuals with teaching skills and an interest in health and wellness who would like to further their own knowledge and share what they learn with others. We are currently accepting candidates with the following interests:

1– Introduction to Herbal Healing: This volunteer will have an interest in alternative health. Common Ground Healing Arts will sponsor your participation in Sacred Plant Traditions’ Six Week Introduction to Herbal Medicine.  This series is provided on consecutive Tuesdays from April 10-May 15, 2012 in Charlottesville. This volunteer will commit to participating in our monthly herbalism outreach clinic for a period of one year.

2– Topics in Health and Herbal Medicine: This volunteer will have previous teaching experience and an interest in nutrition and alternative health. Common Ground Healing Arts will sponsor your participation in a variety of one-day weekend training sessions at Sacred Plant Traditions in Charlottesville. Training sessions will include topics such as Digestive Health, Kitchen Apothecaries, and Fermented Foods. This volunteer will commit to offering one educational session per month on topics in health and herbal medicine for a period of one year. These sessions will be offered throughout our community to local minority groups.

3 – Acu-Detox Acupuncture: This volunteer will have an interest in acupuncture and addiction recovery. Common Ground Healing Arts will sponsor your training at an Acu-Detox Specialist Training.  This weekend training is available on various dates in 2012 at Wintergreen Resort in Nelson County, VA. This volunteer will commit to treating individuals using Acu-Detox methods in a volunteer clinic setting for 4 hours per month for a period of one year.

4 – Adapting Yoga for Bigger Bodies: This volunteer will have some previous yoga experience. Common Ground Healing Arts will sponsor your training, room, and board at Adapting Yoga for Bigger Bodies with Meera Patricia Kerr, Apr. 12-15, 2012 at Yogaville, VA. This volunteer will commit to teaching one free yoga class per week for students with bigger bodies for a period of one year.

5– Yoga for Children with Special Needs: This volunteer will have some previous yoga experience and a demonstrated interest in special education. Common Ground Healing Arts will sponsor your training, room, and board at Yoga for the Special Child with Sonia Sumar, Sept. 21-28, 2012 at Yogaville, VA.  This volunteer will commit to teaching one free yoga class per week for children with special needs for a period of one year.

6– Yoga for Elders: This volunteer will have some previous yoga experience. Common Ground Healing Arts will sponsor your training, room, and board at Ageless Yoga: Teaching Yoga to Our Elders with John Schlorholtz, May 17-20, 2012 at Yogaville, VA. This volunteer will commit to teaching one free yoga class per week for elders for a period of one year.

7 – Prenatal Yoga: This volunteer will have previous yoga experience and will preferably be a yoga teacher.  Common Ground will sponsor your training at the Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training with Leslie Lytle, July 25-29, 2012 at Ashtanga Yoga Charlottesville. This volunteer will commit to teaching one free prenatal yoga class per week for a period of one year.
